Into Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Perspective on Weight Loss and Weight Gain

Published

Jennifer Love Hewitt has been very open about her weight gain and weight loss during her pregnancy.

Hewitt has three kids with her husband, Brian Hallisay. Their first daughter was born in November 2013, a few days after Hewitt and Hallisay’s wedding.

Then, they welcomed their son, Atticus James, in June 2015, and the pair were blessed with another baby boy, their third child, Aidan James, in September 2021.

The Client List actress has often talked about her experience as a mother and what she went through during pregnancy. It is a well-established fact that a woman’s body changes after giving birth.

Many are coerced into following a weight-loss diet and maintaining their bodies. However, the transition between weight gain and weight loss was the last thing on Hewitt’s mind.

After giving birth to Autumn, the 9-1-1 star sat down with People and talked about her pregnancy. She was a couple of months into postpartum at the time, and her main priority was her daughter.

Talking about the post-pregnancy figure, Hewitt admitted that she was busy nursing Autumn than counting calories for herself. She said, “The most important thing is [Autumn] getting food.”

Regardless, her weight gain during pregnancy took a mental toll on her. She had been conscious about her height and weight throughout her career, so it started to worry her when she did not undergo weight loss.

She said, “I didn’t look like some of the girls in the magazines that I’ve worked with … who [the weight] does fall off for. I was like, ‘What’s wrong with me?’ I had to have a conversation with myself.”

Eventually, she came to terms with her body after realizing that she had just given birth to her daughter. She wondered, “I had to look at her and think, ‘Would I want her to feel this way when she’s my age?’”

In the end, she concluded that her headspace was wrong, and she had to change her mindset about her weight gain and weight loss perspective.

“It took nine months to get it this way, it might take nine months to get it back,” she explained. She set her priorities straight and said that if she had an option of going to the gym for an hour or taking a nap with her daughter, she would choose the latter.

Ultimately, Hewitt continued her weight loss journey to maintain her height and weight. However, she did so with her baby by her side.

She mostly did swimming and Zumba —  something Autumn loves doing. The actress claimed, “I hold her, we do squats, we dance, she listens to the music and she loves it. Or I put her in her little chair and she watches and thinks it’s really funny.”

Hewitt was recently questioned about her postpartum body after giving birth to her third child. She took to Instagram to announce that she would be taking a hiatus from social media because of the pressure revolving around weight gain and weight loss.

She noted that social media made her feel bad about herself and made it seem like she was not enough. As a result, she took a break from social media to care for her family and her mental health.

Weight loss and weight gain before pregnancy

Hewitt made the news many times before her first pregnancy because of her weight. Her body enchanted everyone, from fans to the media, with many quickly jumping to ask, “Did Jennifer Love Hewitt gain weight?” and “Why did Jennifer Love Hewitt gain weight?”

In the past, the star adored her figure and never struggled with weight. However, in 2007, newspapers published photos of her in a bikini that looked to show her with a few additional pounds.

When all of this occurred, the actress was on holiday in Hawaii. Although she said at the time that her weight increase wasn’t a major concern for her, she didn’t disguise her anguish at the media’s portrayal of her.

Several online media sources went even further in their rude and cruel comments. Some sources commented on her swimsuit photos, such as “I know what you ate last summer.”

Even though she was under attack, Hewitt did not keep her mouth shut. In response, she said, “girls with butts, boobs, hips and a waist, put on a bikini, put it on, and stay strong.”

It is reported that she also recruited a personal trainer named Stevie Sant’Angelo. The latter assisted her in losing 14 pounds in a record-breaking ten weeks in 2008. Hewitt’s weight loss journey, however, did not finish there.

She acknowledged altering her stance on the societal problem of weight gain. Moreover, she admitted that she no longer had a fixation with the issue.

She stated that she never looked at the scale, has no idea how much she weighs, and has never paid attention to such details. She claimed that she would be pleased if she felt comfortable in her attire, regardless of what others said.

Hewitt also expressed dissatisfaction with the media’s reaction to her photos. She wasn’t unhappy for herself, but it made her sad to think about how other girls suffering with their body image may feel when subjected to such criticism and abuse.

Jennifer Love Hewitt’s responds to ‘unrecognizable’ comments

In a candid revelation, Hewitt, now 45, opened up about the harsh realities of aging in the unforgiving spotlight of Hollywood.

Speaking on the Inside of You podcast, she acknowledged aging as a privilege but revealed the relentless scrutiny she faces for every change in her appearance.

After a recent haircut garnered negative attention and hurtful headlines, Hewitt attempted to combat the criticism with humor on social media, only to be met with further backlash.

Her experience sheds light on the pervasive double standards and impossible beauty standards that women in the entertainment industry continue to grapple with.

Jennifer Love Hewitt’s career

Hewitt’s journey into the entertainment industry began at a remarkably young age, with her first performance at a livestock show at just 3 years old. By 5, she was already immersed in dance, studying tap, jazz, and ballet, eventually touring with the Texas Show Team across the Soviet Union and Europe.

The family’s move to Los Angeles at age 10, spurred by talent scouts, proved fortuitous as Hewitt quickly found commercial success and secured a role on Disney’s Kids Incorporated in 1989.

Despite facing initial setbacks with several television projects, she ultimately soared to fame with her role on Party of Five in 1995.

In recent years, Hewitt has maintained her presence in the industry with regular appearances on shows like 9-1-1 and a notable role in the documentary Betty White: A Celebration, showcasing her enduring talent and versatility.
